AWARD-WINNING STUDENT NEWSPAPER
STUDENT NEWSPAPER RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD - AGAIN!
There is nothing like tradition, and the students and faculty
behind the student-run newspaper, the Statesman, take that tradition of excellence seriously!
The 2006-07 Wilson High School student newspaper, the Statesman,
was awarded again a First Class Honor Rating with a Mark of
Distinction for coverage and content and another one for photographs,
art, and graphics by National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA).
The Statesman has a long history of awards dating all the way back
to the first year the school opened in 1956. It has won a First
Class rating from NSPA each decade since that time.
The Statesman was inducted in the NSPA All-American Hall of Fame
in 1991.
Our thanks go out to Tracy Groom, Wilson English teacher and
advisor for the Statesman. He continues the 50+ year tradition of
excellence at Wilson. "The Statesman is an excellent student-run
newspaper that benefits greatly from a fine staff of talented and
dedicated writers, editors, and photographers," states Tracy.
If you haven't picked up the school newspaper lately, check it
out. The current issue will be available at school at the end of the
month or better yet get the paper delivered at home by contacting the Statesman to arrange for a subscription.
Students, congratulations on this deserving award!
